Exploring Communication Through A Creative Lense

Hi everyone! My name is Hope Montgomery, and I’m a graduate student in Strategic Communications at Washington State University. After earning my bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications from WSU this past May, I wanted to continue building my skills and learning more about the different sides of communication.

For this class, I’m interested in exploring topics that connect to the career I want to have after graduation. I’m especially interested in public relations, social media, marketing, and storytelling. Through my past experiences with PRSSA, Crimson Creative, and other communication projects, I’ve learned that I really enjoy the creative side of communication and finding different ways to connect with an audience.

One topic I’m particularly interested in is how organizations use social media to build relationships with their audiences. Social media has become such a big part of how organizations communicate, and I think there is a lot to learn about what makes certain content stand out and actually connect with people. I’m also interested in how storytelling can make communication feel more personal and meaningful.

Another area I would like to explore is communication for nonprofits and community organizations. I’ve had the opportunity to work with organizations where the goal is not just to promote something, but to tell a story, bring attention to an important issue, or connect people with their community. I think this is an area where public relations and storytelling can make a real difference.

I’m excited about this class because I’ll be able to work with Adobe programs and create different types of multimedia content. I’m looking forward to experimenting with different ways of telling stories and hopefully creating projects that I can also use as part of my professional portfolio.
